In Memory of Pamela Jenkins – Board Chair – SCAS

Pamela jenkins fixed

It is with great sadness and condolences to the family that we share that Pamela Jenkins, Chair of the South Carolina Autism Society (SCAS) Board of Directors, passed away on August 4, 2021, due to COVID related complications.

Ms. Jenkins was a great advocate and supporter of SCAS. You would have never met a more dedicated, passionate, or committed board member. One simply could not have known her or worked with her in any capacity and not have been tremendously touched not only by the work she did but also what she meant to the entire autism community across South Carolina.

The SCAS Board of Directors and Team commit to honoring Ms. Jenkins’ legacy by expanding our outreach and the positive impact for the autism community of South Carolina.

Ms. Jenkins was the mother of four. Her youngest son, Rayshawn, was born at 25 weeks gestation and diagnosed with developmental delay at birth. At 2.5 years old, Rayshawn received a diagnosis of autism. This began her journey towards understanding Rayshawn’s diagnosis, learning how to address his needs, keeping him safe, and overcoming many challenges. Rayshawn has been provided services by SCAS for over 13 years.

In March of 2018, Ms. Jenkins created Rayshawn’s Team in support of SCAS’ Annual Strides for Autism Walk. Between 2018 and 2021 Ms. Jenkins’ enthusiasm drove contributions of over $20,000 for Rayshawn’s Team. In 2019, having seen the difference that SCAS made in the life of her son, Ms. Jenkins joined the Board of SCAS to devote her time to helping children and families within the autism community. Within the first few months of joining the board she organized a successful fundraising banquet. Upon seeing this energy and enthusiasm she was voted to be the Chair of the Board of Directors.

We also strongly encourage all members of the community to continue to take precautions to keep safe from the COVID-19 pandemic including but not limited to getting vaccinated, wearing masks, and social distancing.

Ms. Jenkins’ family has requested that community members honor her by making contributions to SCAS in her name in lieu of flowers or other support.
