James A. Merklinger Appointed as New Executive Director of the Autism Society South Carolina
West Columbia, South Carolina, October 6, 2024 — The Autism Society South Carolina (SCAS) is excited to announce the appointment of James A. Merklinger as its new Executive Director. Merklinger brings a wealth of leadership, legal expertise, and nonprofit management experience to the organization, with a proven record of advancing advocacy, education, and support for diverse communities.
Merklinger joins SCAS with decades of experience leading organizations that champion causes and initiatives impacting individuals and families. He has previously served as the President of the ACC Credentialing Institute, Director of the ACC Foundation, and President of Washington Irish RFC, Inc., a nonprofit organization. His extensive experience also includes serving as the general counsel for the Association of Corporate Counsel, a global organization, where he oversaw a range of operational, strategic, and legal functions that supported both the board of directors and executive teams.
Throughout his career, Merklinger has been a dedicated advocate for those who rely on inclusive, innovative, and equitable support systems. As Executive Director of the Autism Society South Carolina, he will focus on expanding the organization’s reach across the state, enhancing resources for individuals with autism and their families, and driving new fundraising initiatives to ensure that SCAS continues to provide vital support to the autism community.

Merklinger is a proud graduate of Wofford College and the University of South Carolina School of Law. He has also been an advocate for professional development programs, serving as a champion of training programs for in-house counsel, and securing funding for nonprofit causes. His legal and management background, combined with his personal dedication to social impact, will be critical in leading SCAS into its next phase of growth and impact.
