Specialisterne: Employment Opportunities for Individuals with Autism and Similar Challenges
Earlier this year, The Arc of the Midlands was awarded a grant from the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs to develop a Specialisterne program in South Carolina. Specialisterne programs look to harness the special characteristics and talents of people with autism and use them as a competitive advantage, and as a means to help people with autism secure meaningful employment.
We are excited to announce The Arc of the Midlands is currently soliciting SC candidates for the Microsoft Corporation Autism Program! Microsoft Corporation has engaged with Specialisterne USA in the development and implementation of a disability and inclusion program which expands the participation of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in their labor pool. Microsoft’s goal is to on-board high functioning individuals with ASD as full time employees. The positions include technical roles in various engineering business groups, such as Microsoft Developer Division, Microsoft Cloud & Enterprise, Microsoft Xbox, Microsoft Windows, and other business units.

Microsoft is planning on filling 15 of these positions during this initial hiring wave. Additional job opportunities, including non-programming positions, will be announced later this year. If a candidate is selected for assessment, Microsoft will pay for travel to Redmond, Washington. If the candidate is hired, relocation is required and Microsoft will provide a relocation package. As the program expands we hope to be able to offer positions at other Microsoft locations and/or with corporations closer to home. Although a move is involved for these particular jobs, this could be an opportunity of a lifetime for the right candidate!
Please have potential candidates email their resume to Specialisterne@ArcMidlands.org NLT August 21, 2015. If found qualified, candidates will be notified by August 31. Assessments will be conducted in September with final invitations to travel to Washington being announced by September 25, 2015. Please don’t hesitate to contact our office for more information. Also note we can also help process candidates from bordering states/regions.
