Strides – Midlands 2015

Strides for Autism is the South Carolina Autism Society’s signature fund-raising and awareness walk. Monies raised for South Carolina Autism Society stay in South Carolina and go towards family supports, education, advocacy, and South Carolina-based research. According to the South Carolina Secretary of State, the South Carolina Autism Society devoted 90% of its total expenses to program services.

EMCEE & HONORARY CHAIR!
Emcee – Joe Pinner is known by past attendees at Midlands Strides for Autism e from his many years serving as our Emcee. He brings great enthusiasm to the event, which he looks forward to participating in each year. Joe has worked for WIS-TV since 1963, and is most known for his weather reports and the Mr. Knozit Show.
Honorary Chair — Kim Conant has been a pediatric nurse for 37 years. For the last 22 years at Palmetto Pediatric and Adolescent Clinic. She started a “Medical Home” program at Palmetto Pediatrics in September of 2002 and has worked with over 1100 families with a child or children with special needs in this capacity. She gives you the comfort of having one person working with your primary Palmetto Pediatric physician to keep track of all care needs. She also provides help in identifying or obtaining other resources your child may require.
OUR GOALS ARE SIMPLE.
- Raise the awareness of autism spectrum disorders. The better understanding our society has about autism, the better the quality of life for those on the spectrum will be.
- Raise funds for the South Carolina Autism Society.
FUNDS RAISED GO TOWARDS SEVERAL SERVICES.
Our Service Coordinators work to ensure that the individuals on their caseloads receive the best services to which they are entitled.
|Parent School Partnership
Our Parent Mentors work to assist children with autism in reaching their maximum potential in the classroom through appropriate services and accommodations.
|Information & Referral
We aim to help provide accurate and timely information to families and professionals about autism spectrum disorders and services available throughout the state.
We work in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Education to provide training to families and professionals about various strategies and supports.
We work with policy makers throughout the state to help improve the services available to individuals with autism spectrum disorders.
In addition to our Strides for Autism events, we regularly partner with other community organizations to provide respite and family activities statewide.

We are also seeking adult scout leaders to lead the flag ceremony on the event day for both events.
