News and Happenings

October 2015

---

Hello SCAS supporter!

Below is the latest edition of our monthly newsletter.

From The President

It has been quite a month for many parts of South Carolina.  The devastating floods affected so many people in the Columbia and Lowcountry areas.  Members of the SCAS family were affected, including both families we serve and staff.

While the damage has been overwhelming, so too has been the response from our great state.  Citizens stepped up and donated water and other much-needed supplies, came out to help clean out homes, and let us know that once again, the state of South Carolina is one.  Much appreciation also goes to our first responders, who kept us safe throughout the ordeal. We are proud of the work our own staff members have done to help!

If your family has been affected by this disaster, please be sure to contact your Case Manager for assistance.  We are here to help as you move forward.

This is a good opportunity to remind everyone that it is time for our annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive.  In 2008, we partnered with the LUCAS Network in the Upstate to help provide holiday assistance to autism families in need.  But the need has grown!  So now we now support families statewide through this program.  We need your help!  Please see the announcement below about how you can donate to the Turkey Drive, or sign up to receive assistance.

As always, please contact us if you have questions, need assistance, or would like to get further involved.  Our main number is 803-750-6988, or visit our website at scautism.org.

Sincerely,

Kim Thomas, President & CEO
South Carolina Autism Society

Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive

Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive

Since 2008, The South Carolina Autism Society and the LUCAS Network have partnered to provide a Thanksgiving dinner to families affected by autism who are going through financial difficulties. Thanks to the community’s donations, over 650 families in need have been served since 2008. Your donations supported over 100 families in 2014 alone! The need continues to grow.

For 2015, the two organizations will be collecting donations and distributing grocery store gift cards to recipients.

To make a donation, click here.  You can pay via PayPal, or send a check upon completion. Your donation is tax deductible.

To nominate yourself or someone else to receive this assistance, please click here to complete the nomination form. All nominations must be received by November 1st. Recipients must live in South Carolina, have a family member with autism living in the home, and be in need of financial assistance.
