From The President

Hello SCAS friend!

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to take a moment to thank all of our SCAS families, friends, and staff for all your support over the past year.  Our staff members each have a passion for supporting individuals and families affected by autism.  We appreciate you choosing to allow us to serve you!  And we are so grateful to everyone who has financially supported us so that we can continue to reach our mission!

We are especially thankful that ABLE Accounts are now available in South Carolina!  Last week, State Treasurer Curtis M. Loftis, Jr. officially launched the program.  The South Carolina Achieving a Better Life Experience (SC ABLE) Savings Program, allows individuals with disabilities the opportunity to save and invest money without jeopardizing existing government benefits such as Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

For so long, individuals with disabilities have been unable to save money for the future without the risk of losing benefits.  ABLE Accounts can be funded for as little as $50 up to $14,000 a year.  This is a great means to secure the financial future of an individual with a disability, while protecting their needed benefits.

For more information on SC Able Accounts, please visit https://www.scable.org/.

I hope that you and your families have a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Please contact us if you have questions, need assistance, or would like to get further involved.  Our main number is 803-750-6988, or visit our website at scautism.org.

Sincerely,

Kim Thomas, President & CEO
South Carolina Autism Society
