South Carolina Autism Society

July 2017

From The President

Hello SCAS friend!

We would like to clarify a statement in our July Newsletter.  In it, we wrote:

“For families waiting for ABA services, we encourage you to discuss interim options with your Case Manager, such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social skills groups, individual or group therapy, and more.”

It was not our intention to imply that therapies other than ABA are only useful while one waits for ABA services.  Rather we were trying to inform families who are concerned about ABA availability that there are additional therapies that they may consider.  In fact these and other therapies are valuable at any time.  They may be used in conjunction with ABA, while waiting for ABA, or in place of ABA.

The South Carolina Autism Society does not endorse one therapy over any other.  We recognize that each person with autism is unique in their strengths and in their needs, and each may follow a different path of therapies.  We encourage each family to discuss therapeutic options best suited for their unique needs with their Doctors and Case Managers.

Please contact us if you have questions, need assistance, or would like to get further involved.  Our main number is 803-750-6988, or visit our website at scautism.org.
